IPL Laser Treatments for Men
The following is general information that may answer your questions with regard to treatment with the VascuLight. Is it painful?
Some clients feel discomfort during the treatment. Exposure is limited to an extremely short pulse and Clients report the treatment feeling like a rubber band snap. This discomfort may range from mild to moderate and does not last long. A burning sensation may last for up to one hour. A cold compress or ice pack may be used if desired.
Are there any side effects?
Blisters – There is always the slight possibility of developing a crust or a blister. This is superficial, does not result in scarring and is treated like sunburn or any other blister.
Pigment changes – The treated areas will properly heal without any pigmentation changes. However, there is always the chance that hyper pigmentation ( darker) or hypo pigmentation (lighter) areas may occur. These are temporary and will fade within 1 – 6 months. Sun exposure must be avoided as this may intensify a hyper pigmentation. It is rare that a change is permanent.
Scarring – This is very rare but it is important to follow all the post treatment instructions carefully.
Excessive Swelling – This may occur immediately after treatment, especially if the face has been treated. It is temporary and not harmful. Cold packs or hydrocortisone preparations may reduce swelling.
Fragile skin – The skin should be treated gently for a few days following treatment. It should not be rubbed and when applying make-up, pat gently. Make-up can be applied immediately after treatment as long as the skin is not broken. If this occurs, it is treated with antibiotic cream.
Bruising – If this occurs it will clear up in 4-7 days. As the purple bruise fades, there may be a brown stain which will also resolve with time, usually within 3 months. We will start with test patches to see how you react to treatment. If the tests are satisfactory, we will then begin a session of treatment.
